The Mystery of Godliness

January 14, 2024

Key Scriptures

“And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifested in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen by angels, preached among the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up in glory.” I Timothy 3:16

“Rather train yourself for godliness; for while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.” 1 Timothy 4:8

Start talking. Find a conversation starter for your group.

  • What has been the most challenging part of your fast thus far?
  • When have you experienced Godliness in those closest to you?

Start thinking. Ask a question to get your group thinking.

  • What is Godliness?
  • What are the first steps to growing in Godliness?
  • Why do you think the true Messiah’s death and resurrection, Jesus Christ, surprised everyone?

Start sharing. Choose a question to create openness.

  • What things need to be let go to grow in Godliness?
  • When is an example of when you first knew that Jesus was the answer?
  • What is the most difficult aspect of Godliness to obtain in your personal walk?

Start praying. Be bold and pray with power.

Lord, I thank you for your Godliness and righteousness. I thank you that you gave your only son to die in our sport to save us from the eternal death that we were destined for. Thank you for giving me a new life, and I pray that I can be an image bearer of you, Jesus. Use me as you will and speak to me clearly through this fast, oh Lord. I want to be less of me and more of you every day. I am nothing without you, giving you all the praise and glory. In Jesus’ mighty name, amen!

Start doing. Commit to a step and live it out this week.

  • Start today if you have yet to commit to a fast or have fallen away from it!
  • Come along somebody this week and share what God is doing in your life.
