The Adolescent Years

October 8, 2023

Key Scriptures

“But flee youthful lusts, and pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.” 2 Timothy‬ ‭2‬:‭22‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Remember your Creator when you are young. Ecclesiastes 12:1

Start talking. Find a conversation starter for your group.

  • As we begin this next series, we will be going through Adolescent, Young Adult, Child Rearing, and Senior Years. What are you looking forward to studying most?
  • What are you sowing now that you will reap when you get older? Is there something you are reaping now that you sowed while you were younger?

Start thinking. Ask a question to get your group thinking.

  • How does a young person stay pure? Reference Psalm 119.
  • In our adolescent years, it is the easiest to forget our Creator. How can you work to remember your creator or show adolescents how to keep God at the forefront of their minds?
  • Do you think Apologetics (Learning how to defend your faith) is important as an Adolescent? Why or why not? What challenges do you see coming up if you don’t know how to properly defend your faith?

Start sharing. Choose a question to create openness.

  • Pastor Craig talked about the Adolescent years being “minefield years.” Why do you think adolescents have a harder time with temptations and staying pure?
  • What are some practical steps you can take to keep God in the center of your life? Are you willing to incorporate that into your life and stick with it?

Start praying. Be bold and pray with power.

  • Father God, as we navigate the adolescent years, either being one or parenting one, we pray you will help us and be ever so present in our hearts and minds. Remind us that you are our God that will get us through the minefield unscathed. You are our compass. You point true North. We pray you will remind us of that and as we teach our young people to follow you. We love you Father, repent of our sins and fully turn back to you as the author and protector of our faith. In Jesus name. Amen.

Start doing. Commit to a step and live it out this week.

Choose to help mentor an adolescent that may need extra encouragement in the Lord.

Adolescents: Write out a covenant or purity statement to the Lord. Promise to stay pure and ask the Lord to help you navigate these years.
