Seven Leadership Lessons from Nehemiah

March 10, 2024

Key Scriptures

“Then I said to them, “You see the bad situation we are in, that Jerusalem is desolate and its gates have been burned by fire. Come, let’s rebuild the wall of Jerusalem so that we will no longer be a disgrace.” (Nehemiah 2:17)

“I will stand at my guard post and station myself on the tower; and I will keep watch to see what He will say to me.” (Habakkuk 2:1)

Start talking. Find a conversation starter for your group.

  • Do you work as a team at your workplace? What have you accomplished as a team? Could you have done it without them?
  • How have you been a Christian influence within your team? What fruit has come from your influence?

Start thinking. Ask a question to get your group thinking.

  • What is the importance of having a “Why” in your organization, team, or family? What do you think would happen if you didn’t have that “Why?”
  • How did Nehemiah communicate that “Why” with his team? How did Nehemiah inspire them to complete the task?
  • What made Nehemiah a good leader? What stood out to you most from the seven lessons we learned on Sunday?

Start sharing. Choose a question to create openness.

  • Has the truth ever been hidden from you in your team, family, or organization? How did it affect the ability to accomplish your goals?
  • Have you ever been at a breaking point where you felt like quitting? Maybe you didn’t feel like an adequate leader? What got you back up on your feet?

Start praying. Be bold and pray with power.

  • Father God, thank you for your examples of leadership though your son and throughout the Bible. The example Nehemiah set is such an awesome account of inspiration and getting a job done well. We pray you will help us really capture that spirit of Nehemiah so we can do your kingdom work well too! Keep us set on your word, remind us to be in constant prayer, and give us wisdom and discernment to make good decisions. We love you Lord. Keep instilling these great leadership qualities in us as we accomplish the goal to reach as many people for Christ as possible!

Start doing. Commit to a step and live it out this week.

  • Find someone who needs inspiration or prayer when it comes to leading their team/families well. Pour into them.
  • Make a “Why” statement for your family.  Determine what your mission is for your family.
