Settling Tithing

February 4, 2024

Key Scriptures

“The earth is the Lord’s and everything in it.” (Psalm 24:1)

“Honor the Lord with your wealth…then your barns will be filled to overflowing.” (Proverbs 3:9-10)

Start talking. Find a conversation starter for your group.

  • Share a tithing testimony in your life. What has God shown you when it comes to tithing?
  • Does the statistic that only 5% of Americans tithe surprise you? Why or why not?

Start thinking. Ask a question to get your group thinking.

  • Do you think tithing is more important for God or for you?
  • Is Tithing strictly an Old Testament practice? Is it still applicable today? Why?
  • When you tithe, where does the money go? Who does it belong to?

Start sharing. Choose a question to create openness.

  • Go back to a moment in your Christian life when you didn’t tithe. Why didn’t you? If you are currently not a tither, what is holding you back?
  • When you tithe, how does it affect your heart? What scripture backs this up?

Start praying. Be bold and pray with power.

  • Father God, thank you for another day in your presence studying about you. We pray that you will give us a heart for tithing. That we would see it as a spiritual discipline to separate our hearts from the love of money. No amount of money is worth robbing from you. You don’t need the money, but you do want our hearts. So our hearts are yours today God. We repent and ask for forgiveness if our hearts aren’t right with you. We pray as we go about our week, that you will continue to search our hearts and minds, call out the bad stuff, and help us to bring in the good. The godly. In Jesus name, Amen.

Start doing. Commit to a step and live it out this week.

  • Start tithing 10% of your total income.
