Navigating Young Adulthood

October 15, 2023

Key Scriptures

“Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.” (1 Peter 5:8)

“Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers as an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.” (1 Timothy 4:12 ESV)

Start talking. Find a conversation starter for your group.

  • What is the most challenging part about being a young adult?
  • Do you remember the PLACE acronym? What part of “PLACE” do you need to work on?

Start thinking. Ask a question to get your group thinking.

  • Out of the six pieces of spiritual armor we are asked to put on daily, four of them are related to the Word of God. What do they represent? How do they equip you?
  • How does prayer change your heart?
  • How can you be an example of Christ as a young adult? Does it matter how you live your life?

Start sharing. Choose a question to create openness.

  • How would you answer someone belittling the time you spend with the Lord every day? How could you question them and make them think about where they are investing their time?
  • Who do you go to when you are needing Godly counsel?
  • Do you use the Lord’s Prayer as a guide when you pray? State the Lord’s Prayer out loud. How can you better model your prayers with the way Jesus taught us to pray?

Start praying. Be bold and pray with power.

  • Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory forever and ever. Amen.

Start doing. Commit to a step and live it out this week.

  • Commit to memorizing scripture this week and make it a daily/weekly habit.
  • Practice praying with the Lord’s prayer as a guide.
