Making a Difference in Your Senior Years

November 5, 2023

Key Scriptures

“Children don’t provide for their parents. Rather, parents provide for their children.” (2 Corinthians 12:14b)

“Even when I am old and gray, do not forsake me, O God, till I declare your power to the next generation, your might to all who are to come.” (Psalm 71:18)

Start talking. Find a conversation starter for your group.

  • What senior has had the greatest impact on your life? Why? Have you told them?
  • Do you know a Senior who finished the race well? Did they serve the Lord their whole life? What is the fruit you see from their lives?

Start thinking. Ask a question to get your group thinking.

  • How is our culture’s idea of retirement different from how God views retirement?
  • What scriptures counteract the statement, “Do as a say, not as I do?”
  • How does having gratitude mentor our younger generation?

Start sharing. Choose a question to create openness.

  • If you are a Senior, are you currently mentoring someone? If you are younger, do you have a spiritual mentor you could learn from?
  • How can our youth and young adults encourage our seniors and middle agers to keep pursuing and working for the Lord?

Start praying. Be bold and pray with power.

  • Father God, thank you for our middle aged and seniors. We pray for long life and in return, a ministry that continues throughout their life. We pray that you will show them how valuable they are and how much the world needs them. We pray for you to give them a new fire to reach out to someone who needs mentorship or show them where you are needing them in the ministry. We pray you will give them dreams and visions to further your kingdom God. Bless them, keep them, heal them and give them a long life with us Lord. In Jesus name, Amen.

Start doing. Commit to a step and live it out this week.

  • Find a senior mentor and ask them to help you in your spiritual journey.
  • Be a mentor to someone who needs you.
  • Thank a Senior for the impact they have had on your life. Tell them why.
