Jesus Wasn’t Political!

June 25, 2023

Key Scriptures

“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. Matthew 5:14-16

Start talking. Find a conversation starter for your group.

  • How involved should Christians be in politics?
  • When you hear the phrase, “separation of church and state” what do you think it means?

Start thinking. Ask a question to get your group thinking.

  • Do you think God wants His followers to take over the different spheres of influence like the media, education and government to bring about God's kingdom on earth? Why or why not?
  • What is the primary mandate Jesus gave the Church?

Start sharing. Choose a question to create openness.

  • As a believer, how can you influence and change the ungodliness you see in the world in a practical way?
  • Can you come up with some examples?

Start praying. Be bold and pray with power.

“Heavenly Father, You knew that our world needed saving long before any national government would ever be founded. You demonstrated to the world that redemption could not be accomplished through the power of man, economic strength, military might, or politics. It’s only by receiving the gift of salvation offered to us through Jesus' death and resurrection that we can have peace of mind, contentment, hope, and joy. Help us as we are “in the world” to not be “of the world” and give us opportunities to share the Gospel whenever we can, amen.”

Start doing. Commit to a step and live it out this week.
