Frankincense: The Deity of Jesus

December 17, 2023

Key Scriptures

“And when they came into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshiped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh” (Matthew 2:11)

“May my prayer be set before you like incense; may the lifting up of my hands be like the evening sacrifice” (Psalm 141:2)

Start talking. Find a conversation starter for your group.

  • What is your favorite Family Christmas Tradition? How long has it been apart of your Christmas celebration?
  • What physical gift would you bring King Jesus? (Besides your life and devotion.)

Start thinking. Ask a question to get your group thinking.

  • Did the Magi know that Jesus was God? How do you know?
  • What was the significance of Frankincense? Historically, what was Frankincense used for?
  • Read Revelation 5: 1-14. Who was worthy to open the scroll? Why was He the Only one worthy to open the scroll? Does this speak to the Deity of Jesus?

Start sharing. Choose a question to create openness.

  • How do you describe your closest friend? Do you feel like Jesus is your closest friend?
  • What is the health of your prayer life? What do you do when a crisis happens? What do you do when something great happens? How can you make communication with God something that you do continuously? (1 Thess 5:17)

Start praying. Be bold and pray with power.

  • Father God, Thank you for your precious son, King Jesus. We will never be able to thank you enough for coming in the most humble form to save us from our sins. We will fully devote our lives to you and give you all the praise and honor that we are able. As we are celebrating Christmas, let Jesus be at the forefront of our minds. Set up divine appointments to share the Gospel with others, and let us be a help to those who are lonely or sad during this time of year. In Jesus name, Amen.

Start doing. Commit to a step and live it out this week.

Share the Gospel with someone. Sometimes we forget how simple it is to witness to someone.

Read all of Matthew Chapter 2.
