Did Jesus Christ Really Claim to be God?

July 30, 2023

Key Scriptures

“All things have been handed over to me by my Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.” -Matthew 11:27

And when Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven.” 6 Now some of the scribes were sitting there, questioning in their hearts, 7 “Why does this man speak like that? He is blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone?” -Mark 2:5-7, ESV

John 17:5 “And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began.”

Start talking. Find a conversation starter for your group.

  • Have you ever been interested in learning more about Apologetics? (The study of defending your faith.)
  • What was your favorite argument from this message to support that Jesus, indeed, claimed to be God?

Start thinking. Ask a question to get your group thinking.

  • Why did people want to crucify Jesus? What was His crime? Can you give one Scripture reference?
  • What is the Significance of the Title, “The Son of Man?”
  • How does the first coming of Christ fulfill the promise given to Adam and Eve?

Start sharing. Choose a question to create openness.

  • Have you ever had to defend your faith with an unbeliever? How did it go? How could you have been better prepared?
  • None of us have all the answers, but would you know where to go for help to answer hard questions? Give an example if you do.

Start praying. Be bold and pray with power.

We believe in God the Father, We believe in Jesus Christ, We believe in the Holy Spirit. Our God is three in one! We love you Father God. Thank you for sending your son to die for us. You knew the only way that we could be set free from our sin was for you to become flesh and die for us yourself. Thank you Jesus. We are forever thankful and will live our lives for you and you alone. Help us to be able to defend our faith. Holy Spirit, empower us to dig deeper into the scriptures and find answers to the hard questions. Help us to reach the lost. In Jesus name. Amen.

Start doing. Commit to a step and live it out this week.
